Brian Katusian Named Among San Diego’s Top Attorneys

A Certified Legal Specialist in Taxation Law by the State Bar of California, Brian’s practice emphasizes tax law, tax-exempt organizations and ERISA/Employee Benefits.
Brian was recognized by San Diego Metro Magazine for his ability to pivot his practice in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the last year, Brian has successfully counseled employers and third-party administrators on a flurry of critical retirement plan, health and welfare plan, and tax provisions (including PPP loans and related loan forgiveness issues) passed as part of the CARES Act and other COVID-19 relief legislation and regulations.
Serving as ERISA counsel for nonprofits and government entities including the Board of Trustees of San Diego Symphony Orchestra Association Musicians’ Pension Plan, Girl Scouts San Diego-Imperial Council, Inc. and North County Transit District, Brian has helped many clients maximize their loan amounts while minimizing their tax impact.
Earlier this year, Brian authored the annual chapter updates to two chapters in the Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) 2021 edition of “Financing and Protecting California Businesses.” He has contributed to the publication since 2012.
Brian is a member of the California Lawyers Association (CLA) Taxation Section, previously serving as both vice chair and chair of the Income and Other Taxes Committee. For the past two years, he has helped organize and host the organization’s Annual Income Tax Seminar. He has also assisted in authoring comment letters to the IRS and Treasury Department regarding proposed final Treasury Regulations on behalf of the CLA.
