Gig Economy Creates Legal Puzzles for the Courts
The law has shaped the creation and development of the online jobs platforms that comprise the gig economy. And yet there is no law of the gig economy. Although legal principles are currently being applied, it is not clear that existing law is adequate to address the special issues raised by these platforms. In an essay for a special section of the San Diego Union-Tribune on the future of the gig economy, Shareholder Dan Eaton addresses the knowns and unknowns regarding the legalities of the gig economy, as well as how the unknowns might be resolved. According to Dan, “Any legal reforms should address the interests of all the stakeholders in these online platforms.”
